Sometimes a traditional Contact Manager won't work, then you need a CRM application. CRM has as many different definitions as "Carter has liver pills".  CRM is a business strategy that when combined with the correct software gives you a global view of your customer. It takes a linear sales model and makes it circular. In basic CRM, customers are in any one of three main areas, and quite possibly in all three simultaneously. The areas are Marketing - prospecting for new customers and cross selling existing customers. Sales - the sales funnel and sale force automation. Customer Service - this is the post-sale process that takes place to make certain that the customer stays in the cycle.
